Every apartment in Tang Hall is equipped with a local fire alarm as well as a global fire alarm. If the local fire alarm rings (it has a beeping sound), say, due to smoke from burnt food, open the windows in your room, and try to increase the air circulation so that it goes off. However, please do not open the doors, as the smoke may spread and cause a global fire alarm.
If the global fire alarm rings, immediately evacuate the building using the nearest stairs. Do not use the elevator in this case. Here is how it sounds.
Fun fact (credits: John Moler): The global fire alarm is 105 decibels ~7 feet from the source. This means that when exiting right under the alarm like you have to when leaving your apartment, your ear may be exposed to up to 125 decibels + or – a few decibels because i was evacuating when I took that measurement
